Free Willy (1993): The film follows a troubled 12-year-old boy named Jesse who is living in a foster home. While doing community service at a marina, he befriends a captive orca whale named Willy. When Jesse discovers that Willy is set to be killed by the aquarium’s owners for insurance money, he devises a plan to free Willy and return him to the ocean.
Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home (1995): Two years after the events of the first film, Jesse is now a teenager living happily with his adoptive parents. He reunites with Willy during a family vacation at the Pacific Northwest coast. When an oil spill threatens Willy and his family’s habitat, Jesse and his new half-brother, Elvis, work together to save the whales from the environmental disaster.
Free Willy 3: The Rescue (1997): Jesse, now a young adult, is working on a research ship studying whales. He discovers that illegal whaling operations are targeting Willy and his pod. Along with his old friend Randolph and a young boy named Max, whose father is a whaler, Jesse fights to protect the whales from being hunted.
Each film in the “Free Willy” collection focuses on the bond between Jesse and Willy, highlighting important environmental and social issues through their adventures.
